In my many years of working in community mental health and, most recently, as a trauma therapist, I have learned that the therapeutic element that propels us to changing our lives has a lot to do with feeling supported. Finding a safe and inviting space can help us endure the distress of beginning an unknown journey towards healing. The connection we can build with a therapist can truly help.
My therapy approaches primarily stem from mind-body modalities such as EMDR and Somatic Experiencing, and the Polyvagal Theory. These approaches elicit body awareness, knowledge of the nervous system and with the use of somatic interventions it can support a greater connection to find healing from our wounds. I believe that we all have the innate capacity to heal ourselves. Together, we can learn to be in the here-and-now and allow your body to reprocess that wound. Together, we can start the journey of healing.
