Frequently Asked

QUESTIONS

How long does treatment last and how long is each session?

It is difficult to provide an average duration for treatment.  It depends on many factors: the nature of the presenting problem, how long the problem has been going on for, the severity of the problem, etc.  Some people find positive results within a few sessions and others may need several months.  It is important to have a conversation with your therapist about your expectations and availability, so that you can both work collaboratively on a treatment plan that fits your needs.

As for the duration of each session, they average between 45-55 minutes.  The first session (also known as assessment) may be a little longer (60-90 minutes).

Do you offer medication services?

No. At Teleayuda, we offer psychotherapy services.  That means that we are licensed mental health professionals trained to help you manage emotional problems through listening to you non-judgmentally and teaching coping skills for you to better manage challenging situations. If you are interested in exploring a medication option for your emotional struggles, please talk to us so that we can discuss it with you and, if needed, help you get in touch with a doctor that prescribes medication for emotional problems.

What happens during the first appointment?

The first appointment is called an “assessment” and we will review what brings you to therapy now, as well as different aspects of your life that will help us understand you better and form a good picture of how to help you.  We may ask you to fill out some questionnaires before the first appointment that will help gather some information about how you are feeling and establish a baseline, so that we measure future progress against that.

Does medical insurance cover psychotherapy?

Fortunately, many plans do. It is always best for you to check with your insurance to confirm coverage.

Is teletherapy as effective as in person?

Yes! There is significant research that supports the effectiveness of teletherapy as a legitimate form of treatment. You can learn more about teletherapy browsing the articles in our BLOG.

If I use the insurance I have through my job, would my employer know I’m in therapy?

No.  Psychotherapy services are confidential.

Are teletherapy services confidential and secure?

Yes, teletherapy follows the same confidentiality rules as in-person therapy.  The video platform used by Teleayuda is secure and HIPAA-compliant.

Do you treat substance abuse problems?

No.  We focus on mental health services.  However, some people struggle with both.  If you are struggling with a substance use problem, please talk to your therapist about it so that you can discuss the need for a referral to other services.
